The Wildcat Walk: Newest kicks on campus

Welcome back, Nova! This fall has been a busy start to a great semester on campus with VSB turning 100 this academic year. New students means new faces and new fashion, and obviously new kicks. Villanovans famously have great senses of style, so here are just a few new shoe choices I’ve noticed on my walks through the quad.

As pictured above, I’ve seen lots of people rocking the New Balance P550s. A popular style shoe from the 90s, these low top shoes are versatile for your everyday walk to class. In the image these are styled with pants, but they can span all the way to tennis club chic with a skirt and a tank top.

Nike Dunks have also been making their way around this season, my personal favorite! As of late, Nike Dunks typically feature color, and many Wildcats can be seen favoring pastel palettes on their shoes. Nike Dunks are also a versatile sneaker; due to their gender fluidity (as with the P550s) they can be styled with most outfits. Combinations are endless!

In men’s footwear, minimalism is the name of the game at Villanova. Lately I’ve seen tons of fashionable guys walking to classes with lighter colored sneakers, if not containing white then cream. As we’re still in a warmer month, light and airy footwear tends to be favored by the crowd. As it gets colder, I’ve seen low top sneakers like Nike Dunks, Vans, or Stan Smiths styled with joggers, khakis or jeans and various campus t-shirts or dressier tees. Men are also getting a KICK out of low tops this season, observing Chuck Taylors, Sperrys, and sometimes even suede sneakers on campus.

How could I talk about men’s footwear without mentioning flip flops? Bartley frequenters can often be heard walking the halls, flip flops smacking against heels and the floor as they walk through the Exchange. Often a comfortable option for sophomores staying in Bartley late to finish assignments or meet with their CE groups.

As a whole with men’s and women’s fashion, low top sneakers are cycling back through trend watches and more and more people can be seen adopting a pair into their closets. From Chuck Taylors to Reeboks, beater shoes favor the Villanovan on their dreaded 10 minute transition from Garey to Bartley.

As we move into fall, I personally cannot wait to see what trends come back to campus. Shoes are always a great place to start when planning an outfit, and this season it seems students understood the assignment with footwear.
