The Gen-Z Take on Business Casual

As a sophomore in college now, like many others I am sure, I have started to think about internships and jobs I could be interested in for the future. Villanova offers many opportunities to connect with recruiters, but most of these in person opportunities require business formal, or business casual clothing. I found that when I was recently shopping for business attire for the career fair I had way more fashionable options available to wear, whereas in the past black pants and a black blazer was the norm.

I usually dread trying to look for business clothing because a few things that come to mind when it comes to business clothes are plain colors, outdated styles, and unflattering lines. However, Gen-Z fashion has rewritten the rules when it comes to business casual wear, and now we see bright colors and flattering styles for men and women in the business world. Pieces of business casual have even crept into everyday style- like a blazer with jeans to class, or a trouser pant and platform loafers to elevate a look.

The trend includes various styles too. Blazers can be oversized, fitted, and some can have shoulder pads. Pants are more than just one style; bootcut, straight leg, oversized, high-rise, mid-rise, and more. The possibilities are endless!

All in all, the fashion world has taken business casual and ran with it. Now you can walk into most clothing stores and find business casual pieces at stores like Zara and H&M, whereas in the past the availability of stores with business clothing were much more limited. Now, we are all able to find something we feel comfortable and confident to take the world by storm in our interviews and internships!
