Spooky season is here! But let’s be real it isn't the goblins, ghosts, and witches that make this season truly scary. The scariest part of Halloween is having to come up with an original, cool, and classy costume. A costume that won’t break the bank, won’t look pieced together, and won’t be copied by every other person at the party. As this task rears its head each year, it's time to break out those costume lists in your notes app and revisit your Pinterest boards. But, what will it be this year? Barbie? Oppenheimer? A witch? A Disney character? Or maybe play it safe and just dress up as a devil… again. Well, have no fear, today you will find this decision just a bit easier with a few recommendations for the perfect costume.
A Costume for The Cool Girl: 2023 Snow White

To start off this costume inspo, let’s keep it simple. A modern-day play on a classic character. This rendition of Snow White is simply an updated version of something timeless: The Disney Princess. We see it every year, in group costumes, solo costumes, and couples costumes. But, adapting the everyday Disney princess into the 21st century is pivotal to keeping the wow factor in this costume. This version of Snow White by @shira.klein on Instagram utilizes modern fashion elements that far outshine a bagged costume from Spirit Halloween. With a thick ribbon on the neck, the costume starts off a success. Helping to make the costume more adult, the choker is a great choice which also adapts a timeless fashion trend deemed “not a passing fad” by Vogue just last year. This costume is also elevated by the denim corset. Denim is a great way to alternate classic blue with a more street-style twist. Lastly, the skirt is trimmed with lace adding yet another interesting element that draws the eye and strays from the usual boring bagged costume.
A Costume for The Trend Lover: Ballerina

With “ballerina” fashion on trend for a few years now, this next costume is an easy and flirty way to mix up a trendy style. Seen in the fashion world from Hailey Bieber’s lip treatment to the Miu Miu ballet flats, “ballerina core” is straightforward and easily translated into a costume. The beauty of the ballerina costume is it can be adapted to anyone. Looking at the outfit from top to bottom there are several options to play around with. First, a crucial element is a hair bow, this can be clipped in, made with loose ribbon, or even done with a pretty hair tie. But a ballerina bun with a hair accessory is a key part of the look. Next, the top can be anything from a leotard (if you want an authentic look) to a light pink tank top with a shawl over. The top can really be anything: a wrap cardigan, a light pink corset, a knitted shawl, it's up to you! Similarly, the bottom is up for personal choice. But, light pink tights, leg warmers, and a light pink skirt are the best way to achieve the look. To finish off, ballet flats are a great addition to tie everything together, but not necessary as white sneakers can always give a dancer feel. The greatest part of this costume is that it can be done with very little effort. In its most minimal form, this costume can be created with any flowy white or pink skirt with a white or pink top.
A Costume for The Low Effort Look: Subway Surfers

The last recommendation is extremely easy to recreate, made specifically to cure any Halloween costume fears. Subway Surfers is a video game we all knew and loved as children, but it’s also a very unique and effortless costume that can be done with things found in anyone’s closet. Patterning the outfits of the main character, all you’ll need is baggy jeans, a white tank top, a gray hoodie, a jean vest, and a fun red hat. Bonus points for adding the spray paint backpack or heading to your local craft store and buying a can of spray paint. At its root, this costume is a mix of all things found in your closet with some fun accessories. Designed for the lazier people on Halloween, Subway Surfers is an easy cheap costume that will be sure to get compliments!
