Copenhagen Fall: What is it?

Fall fashion is unique to every year as the trends change and clothes go in and out of style. This season we have seen scarves, sweaters, leather jackets, pops of red, black boots, etc. and the outfits have been nothing short of stylish and fun. But what if I told you that this sort of style had a name?

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and also the name of the style we are seeing this fall. Searching the words “Copenhagen Fall” on Pinterest will bring up photos of girls in thick sweaters, Ugg boots with jeans, and colorful scarves. These outfits are put together, chic, and comfy and are also considered Copenhagen. Something so fun about this style is that it is really achievable for those who want to wear it.

Start with a pair of slouchy jeans, any wash, and an Ugg or sneaker. You can either pair this with a basic long-sleeve or a fun sweater and finish with a coat and a scarf. This style will keep you warm while also being fashionable and is perfect for class or a day in the city, the options are truly endless. The items in these outfits are timeless as scarves, sweaters, and coats have been fall and winter staples every year. You can fill your closet with these items and have use for them every season, even when the Copenhagen trend is replaced by another. This style is not limited to these few items and can expand into skirts, purses, sunglasses, ballet flats, tights, etc. Something like ballet flats might be a micro trend as they may not be popular next year but they can elevate your Copenhagen outfit to be fitting with the trends right now.

Another great thing about this style is that comfort is at its core and that is something that every college girl can agree with when trying to dress for class. I have noticed that around Villanova girls are slowly starting to incorporate this fashion into their outfits. Uggs with jeans are a common occurrence and this may be paired with a sweater or the occasional leather jacket. I look forward to seeing the style continue to integrate its way into Villanova as it gains more popularity on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Alix Earle just posted on Instagram from a trip to London where she sported leather coats, skirts, black boots, tights, etc. This may be the typical European vacation outfit but as influencers begin to incorporate this fashion into their lives and on their feeds, Copenhagen style will only continue to grow and reach people here in the U.S.

Fashion is ever-changing and no style is going to stay forever but Copenhagen fall is here for the season and can be seen around our own campus and on those outside of school. With winter coming up, people’s outfits will only elevate and incorporate even warmer pieces like fur hats and gloves, leaving us to wonder if we will see a Copenhagen winter.
