Bella Hadid and Coperni Break the Internet

For those lucky enough to experience fashion month, it is anything short of a colorful and exhibiliarting experience for all five senses. From an increased strive towards sustainability, size, inclusivity, metallics galore, and the most colorful of hues, the evolution of fashion as art and expression is more than evident.

As fashion month comes to close, we have seen the immense range of creative expression that fashion can yield. One of my favorite Parisian fashion houses, Dior took inspiration from 16th century monarch and feminist Catherine de’ Medici. This collection was anything short of medieval-inspired corsets, sheer fabrics and neutral colors with darker undertones and mesh patterns. In New York, Lil Nas X made his runway debut as the newest face of Coach, while in Milan, Gucci’s newest collection Twinsburg featured 68 pairs of identical twins to emulate the same outfit and accessories in independent ways.

Despite the impressive displays, no collection screamed this is the future like French-label Coperni’s Spring Summer 2023 Show. Coperni is no newcomer to iconic fashion pieces, with their glass purses catching the eyes of celebrities such as Doja Cat and Kylie Jenner this past Spring. The brand’s most recent show took place on September 30 in Salle des Textiles at Paris's Musée des Arts et Métiers. The neutral-colored collection featured sharp a-line cuts with bold asymmetry, as well as watercolor-like floral textiles and accessories. If that wasn’t enough, Bella Hadid closed the show out, in a way bound to go down in fashion history.

Wearing nothing but skin toned undergarment, two scientists began spraying Bella with fabric-spray paint called Fabrican, a company founded in 2003 by Spanish fashion designer and scientist Manel Torres. For a little over 10 minutes the supermodel was sprayed with the misty liquid that almost instantly turned into fabric. Unaware of what was taking place, the audience watched the layers of fabric paint turn into the most stunning white, figure-fitting dress. To complete the look a member of the Coperni team began cutting the dress up, leaving a leg slit and draping the fabric off Hadid’s shoulders to finalize the dress. The show was wrapped up with the supermodel walking around the room with Coperni’s newest statement piece.

Not only did Bella Hadid and Coperni break the Internet again, the unique use of performance art made the collection an unforgettable experience for both attendees and fashion lovers alike. The innovative technology used in Coperni’s most recent show only further emphasizes the growing intersectionality between fashion and technology. As it firmly establishes itself as an up and coming fashion-house, one wonders: what is next for Coperni?
